Another comic that debuted earlier this year that I haven’t gotten around to advocating for just yet is Brian Andersen’s So Super Duper, a delightful superhero parody starring Psyche, an adorable but deeply, cluelessly closeted fellow. As issue #1 starts out, Psyche has just become the newest member of “only the awesomest super team in the history of Ever-dom,” The Amazin’ Naughts, a Justice League type of superhero outfit that battles evil and fights crime, etc. Psyche is the type who, upon learning he has been admitted into the Naughts, squeals, “Are you for reals?” and soon, utterly thrilled with the attention and upcoming fame and fortune he’ll be receiving, gets himself a PR agent. He also realizes that, unfortunately, he’ll also need to, you know, actually fight crime in this new gig, and empowered merely with being Empathic (”Able to read emotions…and uh…that’s it.”), he is feeling understandably daunted. On top of that, Psyche also is a complete nelly nancy gayboy and what makes the situation even funnier is that he hasn’t a clue (so far) that he’s, you know, a complete nelly nancy gayboy (for reals). His interactions and conflicts with his team members, among them leader Captain Idol, Halo, Sass, and Briar (Thorny tough guy) are a good source of comedy and light drama in the two issues out so far.
In short, So Super Duper is fun, engaging, pinky, pansy, and pure, and otherwise just a total treat. So I think you should all go out and pick up a copy right now, or order here. I met Brian at APE last APEpril and he’s a swell guy. So Super Duper is the feel-good comic of the year, so buy it and make yourself feel good.
